US accused of covert operations in Somalia

Emails suggest that the CIA knew of plans by private military companies to breach UN rules

Antony Barnett and Patrick Smith
Sunday September 10, 2006
The Observer

Dramatic evidence that America is involved in illegal mercenary operations in east Africa has emerged in a string of confidential emails seen by The Observer. The leaked communications between US private military companies suggest the CIA had knowledge of the plans to run covert military operations inside Somalia - against UN rulings - and they hint at involvement of British security firms.

Stop 9/11 Mickey Mouse Tale

I'm horrified that this is happening in our country. Pravda has apparently taken on a new form.

Tell ABC to Cancel Their Inaccurate and Slanted Sept. 11th Program

Tell ABC -- Cancel Slanted "Docu-Drama"

ABC has decided to honor the national memory of Sept. 11th by giving six hours of prime-time coverage to the wildly inaccurate viewpoints of an avowed conservative partisan. Tell them to cancel this show.

Take Action

On September 10th and 11th, ABC is planning to air a "docu-drama" called "Path to 9/11," which is being billed as "an objective telling of the events of 9/11." In fact, the film was written by an unabashed conservative who twists the facts to blame President Clinton.

Tell ABC to cancel this show.

ABC's new six-hour film was apparently screened in advance only to conservative bloggers and journalists -- and received extensive praise from none other than Rush Limbaugh. The film is apparently also riddled with factual errors and distortions; former counterterrorism czar Richard Clarke has completely refuted one of the key scenes in the show.

It's simply stunning to think that as this fall's election approaches, a major television network would devote six hours of prime-time programming to air such a slanted and inaccurate program.

Tell ABC -- this type of inaccurate and slanted program does not belong on primetime television, and they should cancel this show.

Want to increase your impact? Share this message with everyone you know who's interested in unbiased reporting on the tragic events of Sept. 11th, 2001.

Aspartame - The World's Best Ant Poison

----Let me know if anyone else knows anything about this. I've heard of it inducing epelepsy in a relative of mine.

I've been hearing about the negative effects of artificial sweeteners for years, but because I value keeping my weight down have tuned them out. I got the following email from a friend today, and after reading it, followed the link and then began researching.
Read the short article below, then go down to the links I've attached two parts 1-3 of the film "Sweet Misery", and watch them. The resolution on YouTube is often not the best, but bear with it.
Aspartame - The World's Best Ant Poison
>>From the June 2006 Idaho Observer:
>>
>>contributed by Jan Jensen of WELLthy Choices
>>
>>We live in the woods and carpenter ants are a huge problem. We have spent
>>thousands of dollars with Orkin and on ant poisons trying to keep them
>>under control but nothing has helped.
>>
>>So when I read somewhere that aspartame (Nutrasweet) was actually
>>developed as an ant poison and only changed to being considered non-
>>poisonous after it was realized that a lot more money could be made on it
>>as a sweetener than as an ant poison, I decided to give it a try.
>>
>>I opened two packets of aspartame sweetener, and dumped one in a corner of
>>each of our bathrooms. That was about 2 years ago and I have not seen any
>>carpenter ants for about 9 to 12 months. It works better than the most
>>deadly poisons I have tried. Any time they show up again, I simply dump
>>another package of Nutrasweet in a corner, and they will be gone for a
>>year or so again. Since posting this information I have had many people
>>tell me of their success solving ant problems with this substance, when
>>nothing else worked.
>>
>>We found later that small black ants would not eat the aspartame. It was
>>determined that if you mixed it with apple juice, they would quickly take
>>it back to the nest, and all would be dead within 24 hours, usually. I
>>have found that sometimes it will kill them, and sometimes it does not.
>>Not sure why, may be slightly different species of ants or something.
>>
>>Fire Ants: We got our first fire ant hill about 2 weeks ago. Poison did
>>not work. We tried aspartame and the ants ignored it until we got a light
>>rain. It was just a sprinkle, enough to moisten the Nutrasweet and ground,
>>but not enough to wash it away. They went crazy, hundreds of them grabbing
>>it and taking it back into the mound. When I checked the mound 2 days
>>later, there was no sign of the fire ants. I even dug the mound up some,
>>and still saw none of them.
>>
>>How does it Work: Aspartame is a neuropoison. It most likely kills the
>>ants by interfering with their nervous system. It could be direct, like
>>stopping their heart, or something more subtle like killing their sense of
>>taste so they can't figure out what is eatable, or smell, so they can't
>>follow their trails, or misidentify their colonies members, so they start
>>fighting each other. Not sure what causes them to end up dying, just know
>>that for many species of ants it will kill them quickly and effectively.
>>As with any poison I recommend wearing gloves and washing any skin areas
>>that come in contact with this poison, and avoid getting it in your mouth,
>>despite anything the labeling may indicate. I suspect it will work for
>>other insects such as yellow jackets as well, but have not tested that
>>yet.
>>

>Okay, here's the video on YouTube, watch it and then throw out your Diet Coke!!

CBC News - U.S. JUDGE RULES AGAINST GOVERNMENT'S WARRANTLESS EAVESDROPPING

U.S. JUDGE RULES AGAINST GOVERNMENT'S WARRANTLESS EAVESDROPPING
WebPosted Thu, 17 Aug 2006 13:04:52

---A U.S. federal judge in Detroit on Thursday ordered a halt to the U.S.
government's warrantless wiretapping program.

In becoming the first judge to rule against the wiretapping, U.S.
District Judge Anna Diggs Taylor called the National Security Agency's
program unconstitutional.

Sheruled the wiretapping program violated the rights of free speech
and privacy.

"Plaintiffs have prevailed, and the public interest is clear, in this
matter. It is the upholding of our Constitution," Taylor wrote in her 43-
page ruling.

The judge ruled on a lawsuit brought by the American Civil Liberties
Union on behalf of journalists, scholars and lawyers, who claimed the
eavesdropping program made their jobs tougher.

The program involved the U.S. government listening to conversations
between people in the U.S. and other countries.

The U.S. government said it was within the president's powers to order
theeavesdropping, but argued that provingits pointwould require
disclosure of national secrets. With files from the Associated Press

Podcasts Rock

I like to listen to podcasts all day at work, in the car, and when I do things around the house. I recently have been finding more shows that I enjoy, and I really love this guy who does the Best of the Left. It has a variety of mostly left leaning shows from across the country edited into about an hour pocast daily.

My second favorite media annalysis podcasts are Media Matters with Robert McChesney and CounterSpin. (BTW Bob McChesney is the one who produced OutFoxed).

VDARE Article

Below is an interesting story that I came accross. Of course the writter is interesting--he lives in Mexico but is in the US military...I talked to him a little...interesting perspective.

Memo From Mexico, By Allan Wall

Why Is Mexico Meddling In Our Military?

Mexican President Vicente Fox, George W. Bush's "amigo", has made it clear that he opposes the U.S. military operation against Saddam Hussein. (See my March 21 Frontpage.com article "Mexico Sticks It To The 'Yankee' War.")

But that doesn't mean the Mexican government is not interested in the war. It is interested enough to be taking a census of all American military personnel of Mexican birth - and of Mexican descent!

The Mexican government's activities have passed completely unnoticed in the U.S., as usual. You heard it first on VDARE.COM.

Here in Mexico, the Iraq war is being closely followed. The two Mexican television channels, "Azteca" and "Televisa" are both going all-out in their coverage, with correspondents in the Middle East and slickly-produced news reports. But their editorial comments are not favorable to the U.S. military action.

The Mexican media has also put great emphasis on Mexican and Mexican-American soldiers serving in the Iraq theater - including those who, tragically, have already been killed, and those who are missing and captured.

Edgar Hernandez, an American-born U.S. soldier of Mexican descent, has been captured by the forces of Saddam Hussein and displayed with other prisoners on television.

Ruben Estrella Soto, a Mexican-born U.S. soldier, citizenship unspecified, is
